  1. My buddies and I usually follow the casinos' denominations.  We have bought chips in red, green, black, purple, and yellow.

    red = $5

    green = $25

    black = $100

    purple = $500

    yellow = $1000

    Note: When we ordered chips we had purchase an initial 500 chips.  The lower the chip's denomination, the more chips we got in that color.  For example we have twice as many red chips as green chips.  We have more green chips than black chips and so on.

    We usually play hold em tournaments with an initial stack size of $1500.  We have found that the above chips color/denomination combos works well.  We usually start the blinds at $10/$20,$15/$30,$25/$50,$35/$75,$50/$100 and so on.

    Sometimes we play ring games with a $20 buy-in.  Our chip denominations then are $0.25, $1, and $3.  Over the years this has worked out well for ring games.

    Basically your denominations will depend on 3 things (1) The number of chips you have and how many of each color (2) Whether you are playing a tournament or a ring game, and (3) What stakes you are playing for.

  2. $100
