I play games on a laptop, HP, with an OS of windows: vista home premium. The problem is this; when i play any kind of game at random times, regardless of how its working, i will get the above message and the program will shut off entirely, returning me to another window. Namely, FFXI. I thought it was just because FFXI wasn't compatable with vista, but this wasnt the case. This computer happens to do this with ANY game, especially full screen and 3d ones. This never happens on a time schedule, its entirely random. It can run for 9 hours or it can run for 5 mins.

I did a syamtic diagnostic check and it mentioned that the computer passed everything in every category -except- Direct3d. I don't know exactly what Direct 3d is, but if i didnt have it, how could i begin to play for 9 hours before the problem shows itself?

My question really is -what is wrong with this laptop-? It has all system requirements (actually, is superior to all minimal required and reccomended requriments listed on the back of the games to run correctly).

If it helps, the screen briefly freezes for 3-5 seconds, not due to lag (again random), and then the message appears. I have no choice in the matter, windows forces it close.

  1. Hello From the Tech:

Please check all of your drivers are up to date and that your windows are up to date as well.  Sometimes this could cause this problem.  Seconly get a good spyware update and check you dont have some bs running in the background.

    Have a gr8 day.
