Blanka Vlasic and David Rudisha to contest in Monaco: Herculis 2001 – Samsung Diamond League
Last year’s world athletes of the year, Blanka Vlasic, the 27-year old Croatian high jumper and David Rudisha, the 22-year old middle distance runner from Kenya, have decided to appear on the field of the Herculis 2001 event.
Herculis 2001, which is regarded as the tenth stop of the Samsung Diamond League, will commence on July 22 in Monaco.
Rudisha, the young Kenyan star who had emerged at the athletics arena amid his stellar performance back in 2009 at the World Athletics Championships, had been a tremendous performance in 2010. The winner of the IAAF Grand Prix at the Italian city, Rieti,
where he had posted an African record of hitting the finishing line in one minute and 42.01 seconds, Rudisha, witnessed an undefeated last year for the distance he specialises in.
The splendid past year for the athlete brought him titles at some of the most exalted events like African Championships, the Continental Cup, Samsung Diamond League’s Diamond Race and most importantly, his complete dominance of the track for 800m where he
broke the world record twice. Now, after his splendid performance that brought him the Nancy title, Rudisha is flying from Kenya to Monaco where he resolves to finish another major race of his career unbeaten.
On Blanka’s side, things have been pretty much similar to Rudisha, as the formidable high jumper also had an unbeaten 2010. Just like her co-athlete of the year award winner, the major tournaments of the World Junior championships in 2000 and 2002 bagged
by her comprised of World Indoor Championships held in Doha, the European Championships organised in Barcelona and finally the Diamond Race Trophy, which she claimed in the Samsung Diamond League event at the Continental Cup. While sustaining her winning streak,
the personal best she managed to mark was a formidable 2.00m.
The upcoming event at Monaco is quite important for both formidable performers, as this will extend a last chance to both of them to not only gauge their own level of form and fitness, but also to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their rivals before
the World Athletics championships at Daegu.
