Blanka Vlasic to appear at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix – Samsung Diamond League
Blanka Vlasic, the 27-year-old Croatian athlete who boasts of a World Championship title and a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, has assured to participate in the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix which is to commence in July.
Besides the World Junior Champion of 2000 and 2002, other athletes who will be entertaining spectators are comprised of Tyson g*y, the American track and field sprinter who specialises in the 100m and 200m run. He is known as the second fastest athlete in
the former and third fastest athlete in the later distances.
Asafa Powell, the 100m specialist from Jamaica, Phillips Idowu, the triple jumper from England and Mo Farah, British track and field runner of Somalia origin, who holds the European track record for 1000m will also step on the track to secure the title.
English athlete, Christine Ohuruogu, who specialises in 400m runs, will also compete at the opening session of the Samsung Diamond League to be held at the Alexander Stadium of Birmingham, on July 10.
This year’s event, which is being organised a mere 7 weeks ahead of the World Championships in Daegu, is regarded as the ninth leg of the global athletics tour. Vlasic, who is already displaying an impressive performance, is planning to use the Birmingham
platform as a springboard for getting into form that will help her retain the world title, which she has been keeping with her for past four years.
Vlasic is quite used to appearing in competitions in UK, as she has already been into the London Grand Prix for no less than four times, out of which she prevailed as the top finisher for two consecutive years, in 2009 and 2010. Even the Birmingham platform
is not new for her, as she had participated in the European Indoor Championships in 2007 and World Indoor Championships in 2003. However, in next month’s contest, not only her fans and spectators will long to see her performing, but she too will look forward
to see how welcoming the atmosphere is in Birmingham.
Talking about the first outdoor competition she is going to have in Birmingham, the Croatian looked rather excited and said, “I’ve been to Birmingham before, for the World and European Indoor Championships, but this is the first time I will experience the
competition outdoors. I’m looking forward to it.”
The formidable jumper was of the view that she has always loved competing at events in London and she was hopeful to have an equally friendly and welcoming environment at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix.
