Blasphemy Law in South Africa?

The power to ban publications rests with the minister of the interior under the Publications and Entertainments Act of 1963. Under the act a publication could be banned if it was found to be “undesirable” for any of many reasons, including obscenity, moral harmfulness, blasphemy, causing harm to relations among sections of the population, or being prejudicial to the safety, general.

The Act focuses on visual images and limits proscription of the written word to descriptions of child pornography and the advocacy of hatred based on race, ethnicity, gender or religion;

My question, is blasphemy, albeit "technically" still on the Statute books of the Republic of South Africa?

  2. The films and publication act is still applicable but the application of the act has eased quite a lot. It is more and more in our hands to make the choice to look at something however, lacking at this stage is a warning message in programs and film for blasphemy content. I know of various campaigns trying to get warning messages against blasphemy.
