Blaz Kavcic cruises past Tobias Kamke in first round at the 2011 Barcelona Open
Slovakian tennis pro Blaz Kavcic scored an easy win over Tobias Kamke of Germany, ousting the player in straight sets at the first round of the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The match was an easy one for Kavcic, who defeated
the German pro 6-2, 6-3 in just a little under one hour and twenty-three minutes.
Both players are ranked well under the ATP Top 50, although Kamke is slightly higher at World Number 79. Kavcic is ranked World Number 87, and managed an easy upset over his opponent despite this disadvantage. Both players are
right-handed, and are 24 years old. They have not yet won an Association of Tennis Professionals career title, despite the fact that both have been on the professional circuit for several years now.
Kavcic established himself as the better player today, taking control of the match in the first set. The pro managed to break Kamke thrice during this first half, and was only broken once himself. Both players scored an ace apiece,
and did not commit any double faults; however, Kamke played a clumsy game and could only take twenty of a total of 51 points. On the other hand, Kavcic stayed on top almost throughout and won 61 per cent of the total points in this set to put himself in the
lead with a 6-2 score-line.
The Slovakian pro maintained this position in the second set of the match, scoring two aces but committing one double fault. He negated this mistake by saving all three of his break points. The player also broke Kamke two times
in this set, and won a total of 36 points to take 58 per cent of the 62 played in the second set. This helped him to win the second set 6-3, and combined with the first set this led him to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over his German opponent.
Blaz Kavcic will take on either ninth seed Richard Gasquet of France, or Argentine pro Juan Ignacio Chela in the second round of the ATP Tournament.
