Question:

Blazer won't start???

I've got a 1988 S-10 Blazer with 4.3 4WD. It won't start - it will crank over and run if I pour some gas in the throttle body. When that burns off it coughs and stops again. As best as I can tell the fuel pump relay is OK. I have pulled fuel pump from tank. I can resistance from it...could be OK Autozone guy said fuel pump bad even though only about 5 years old. Any ideas. Changed fuel filter and gas was OK. How about the wire harness on fuel pump or just a bad pump. Thanks

  1. If the five year old pump you have now is from autozone go ahead and replace it while you have it out (use that lifetime warranty if they think it is bad).  If not you need to check the pressure output of the fuel pump on a Chevrolet TBI pressure should be 9-13 psi but 10 or less I consider suspect.  If you are getting good pressure when directly wired I would check the wiring harness for proper voltage.  If those are both OK reinstall the pump and check pressures under the hood if you see below 10 psi there I would check lines for cloggs or bends and if they are ok I would then check the injector and pressure regulator on the TBI for any problems.  With all of that said it sounds like a fuel pump issue to me.  Hope this helps.

  2. fuel pressure loss could be from bad pump yes    also a crimped hard line in the fuel lines and perhaps a bad throttlebody    try the pump first

  3. i think it might be the fuel lines that are blocked some place, from the fuel tank to the fuel filter on the engine

  4. Starter is in need....

  5. get a mechanic

  6. Check fuel pressure at throttle body

  7. Fuel injector pulsing fuel into throttle body?Check to see if you have injector pulse with a noid light, after verify fuel pump operation.
