Blazing Tempo to rise above Definite Class in Paulstown Mares Hurdle at Gowran Park
Despite being 10lbs worse off for beating Definite Class at Kilbeggan earlier this month, Ruby Walsh’s return to the saddle may well ensure that Blazing Tempo finishes on top of the table once again.
A hard clash between the two top quality runners will be witnessed in the Paulstown Mares Hurdle, going down at Gowran Park on Sunday, September 23rd.
After a fantastic victory on her seasonal debut, Blazing Tempo went through a lean patch, during which she faced a couple of awful defeats. She was seen ending up 17th in Galway’s Guinness Galway Handicap Hurdle (Grade A) at the start of last month.
It was a huge blow for the connections, as the Mullins-trained showed no pace whatsoever. Quickly bringing things back to the normal, she showed a lot of improvement at the end of August, when finding only a couple of runners too strong in the McSweeney Arms Hotel Handicap Hurdle.
She regained her momentum with a decent performance, and carried forward the good work. Owned by Mrs S. Ricci, the mare won a very close battle at Kilbeggan last time.
It was a hard battle among Blazing Tempo, Annie Other and Definite Class. After a nail-biting clash, the first-named managed to ensure the first prize by a neck’s distance in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Hurdle. Definite Class was not much behind, as she missed the runner-up spot just by a neck’s distance.
A significant rise in the weights is an issue, but Blazing Tempo’s supporters need to get too worried. Her confidence is at the highest point after a blazing win, and she is unlikely to be rusty today.
Definite Class’ chances of dishing out revenge are not very bright. The D. T. Hughes-trained is going through an unlucky spell since three consecutive wins early in the season. She was third on her last two starts. In order to get back to the winning ways, she needs a flawless act coupled with a slice of luck.
Besides the aforementioned pair, a dozen horses have entered the 2-mile 4-furlong meeting. According to the plan, the €13,000 event will be kicked off at 15:15 GMT.
