Rose was contemplating a last stage pull out from the event as the burgeoning pain kept him on the threshold.
He said, "An hour before my tee time, I thought: 'I can't play'. I guess it was some sort of vertigo - I was nearly falling over and was sitting in the doctor's chair for a while”.
The Englishman lauded the European Tour physical trainer and doctor who rendered the right treatment to the world number ten and kept him from withdrawing from the event.
He added, “He gave me an anti-nausea or something and did a good job getting me ready. I felt fine all the way round”.
Also starting on the front, Rose pulled in four birdies on regular intervals with two of them coming on consecutive holes to rise on the leaderboard.
Eager to make space for this year’s Ryder Cup, Rose is one of the top-ranked players in the field this week and holds a strong chance of landing the title ahead of the major events on the calendar year.
Rose won the World Golf Championship event at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa this year in March taking over the current Masters champion Bubba Watson by one stroke.
Rose also had a fine run at Augusta National where he finished for a strong joint eighth to improve his rankings on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Rose also admitted that because of his surprise medical condition forced him to call for easier tee-times in the opening round, something which often helps with the performance through the day.
He added, "Not ideal but sometimes it lowers the expectations, and it's funny how that often works out to your favour”.
Alvaro Quiros, another of the strong contenders and a European Tour winner in the current season, played brilliantly since the first hole, carding a five-under, 67 to settle for the second spot, staying well in contention.
He opened the front with a birdie on the first hole, carding another on the third and yet another on the seventh before he made the turn.
He dropped a shot on the opening hole on the back but quickly regained composure to avoid any more mistakes over the day.
