Question:

Bleeding Parakeet?

My parakeet was bleeding under her feather. I got it to stop with flour and it worked. I noticed it was a blood feather and I read that I should pluck it so I did. It bled a little bit more but after that it just died down from the flour. I want to know if I should clean it myself. I am worried if she cleans it that she will make the clot go away and it will eventually make her bleed to death! What should I do???

  1. I would try taking her to a vet to be on the safe side.

  2. I'd call the vet. Maybe call the After Hours Emergency Vet, if you have one. We have a few of them here. But I'd call someone and ask.

  3. go to the vet!!!!!!!!!!! duh!!! and hurry!

  4. You did the right thing pulling the blood feather.  Just leave it alone...pulling it seals the skin so it won't keep bleeding.  :)

  5. If you pulled the blood feather then she will be ok. It should not bleed anymore. Go ahead and clean it off. Dont stress her too much. If she fusses too much just let her be. The little bit of flour that is there should not hurt her. Its a food product. Good job! I know it isnt easy to get that feather out.

  6. you should clean it carefully trying not to hurt her. use a very soft wet cloth.

  7. Just leave it alone!!! She will be fine. While birds do not clot the way humans do, they will clot slowly. using the flower was the right thing to do, it helps with the clotting.

  8. Take her to a vet that accepts bird patients (not all do) and have them check it out.
