Bleeding inside eye?

Question

My dad and I were wrestling earlier, trying submissions. I choked him out about 6 times and now his eye is bleeding inside. Its like something burst. What is this? Is it dangerous? Thank you.

drive him to the ER for an evaluation.  have him ice the eye while you drive.

A *spontaneous* sub-conjunctival haemorrhage, with the red showing on the white of the eye even quite spectacularly,  is of little significance, and can normally be left to resolve unattended.  It's no more significant than an isolated nose-bleed.

But that's not the case here... there was significant trauma.

The retina therefore needs checking for haemorrhages too, as a precaution, in case there is anything macula-threatening requiring treatment.

This is not odds-on, but is a possibility, given the above circumstances.

Most likely, your father has a petechial hemorrhage. The eye is filled with tiny blood vessels which are sensitive to pressure, so if the bleeding is in the sclera (the white of the eye) that is most likely the cause.

Petechial hemorrhages occur in the eyes and some areas of the skin when the blood supply is squeezed off or a person strains themselves excessively. They can be a tell-tale sign of the cause of death during a forensic examination, but in living people they are usually not dangerous.

Most likely, if it is a minor red spot which is not expanding, it will clear up in a couple of weeks - but it is going to be ugly looking. I am not sure there is anything they could do to clear it up, but if it is causing him discomfort or it is continuing to expand, he should have it checked out by a doctor or ophthalmologist. I had a friend who had the entire whites of both eyes hemorrhage after an accident and they walked around for weeks with red eyes, but had no ill effects other than scaring the h**l out of everyone who looked at him.
