  1. Don't you know the answer? Everyone else does.

  2. Cool question. No, I wasn't asleep. I'm watching the Tour de France on TV and keeping an eye on the cricket score on the internet.

The big one for poor choice of team has to be Chris Amon. Leaving Ferrari of his own choice just after they came up with the 312B was pretty stupid: "I will win another GP before you Chris" were Enzo Ferrari's parting words, and he was absolutely correct, Ferrari winning four races the very next season. Amon's replacement Ickx finished second in the title race with 3 of those wins. Amon then left March after just one season (after running Stewart's Tyrrell-entered March close in the driver's championship, although both were well adrift of the top) to go to Matra, whose glory days were fading fast. He then wasted two seasons trying to set up his own team, losing a lot of money and his last chance to drive competitively too. Two final seasons at Ensign and Williams were not a great success. A wasted talent, but he definitely contributed to his own downfall.

Passing mistakes might go to Jody Scheckter, who had a habit of being involved in large multi-car accidents in his early years; otherwise, it's got to be De Crasheris. He seemed to see gaps which others couldn't...usually because there wasn't a gap there.

Tactical errors are as much a team problem as a driver problem, but Jacques Laffite used to make a right *****-up of things on a regular basis in the days when Ligier were competitive...wrong tyres, wrong wheels, wrong set-up, he managed to make a mess of quite a few races in the period 1979-81.

Mansell has the "brain-fade" title in my book. Fire extinguishers, ignition switches, gear selectors, turbo boost buttons...if he could make a mess of it, he did at some stage Luckily for him, it always seemed to be someone else's fault, even though he was alone in the car...

  3. Rosbif ! your to good.

( In desperation to answer a good question 4 hours too late)

Jean Alesi made a HUGE mistake by not signing for Williams instead of Ferrari in 1991(?)

Damon Hill was amazingly offered DCs seat at Mclaren for the 1998 season but choose Jordan!!

Of course Jaquess Villneuves move to BAR but that was more for money me thinks, could also use J. Villneuve for purple and blonde hair styles!

  4. God this is a toughy coz I don't concentrate on the negatives. Anything that makes for good racing is ok to me so I don't see the negatives. Sorry.
