Blind Luck and Havre de Grace go their separate ways, and by the looks of it they might not be in the same race again
The captivating rivalry which took the racing world by storm, and now that everyone has become immersed in the Havre de Grace and Blind Luck phenomenon, the two fillies have decided to go on their separate ways.
It was a summer to summer affair with these two extravagant fillies, and the intense rivalry developed between the two is among the best seen in thoroughbred racing.
Blind Luck and Havre de Grace have faced each other six times in one year, with five times these two outstanding fillies capturing the top 2 places, and four out of the six clashes have ended in photo finishes.
Though, the Jerry Hollendorfer trained 4-year-old filly, Blind Luck rules the tally by coming out on top in four of their six meetings.
Their last meeting in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park on 16 July, 2011 was again one of those close battles between the two, as Blind Luck nosed out Havre de Grace, and the performance made both fillies favourties to win the Horse of the Year
honours.
Unfortunately, Blind Luck will not be making her 10th cross country trip back east to engage in a fierce battle yet again with Havre de Grace, because after being given the rest of the summer off in California, she is pointed for the Grade 1 Lady’s
Secret on 1 October, 2011 at Santa Anita.
At the same time Larry Jones trained Havre de Grace will size up the caste in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park, also on 1 October.
Even after these races, there is no sign of these fillies going up against each other, not even in the Breeders’ Cup, as Blind Luck is heading for the Grade 1 Ladies Classic and Havre de Grace after defeating males in the Grade 1 Woodward, fancy’s to repeat
the performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The regular fan fears that if Havre de Grace is retired after the Breeders’ Cup and if Blind Luck after the Ladies Classic goes into training for the next year, then that would pretty much be it for the exciting rivalry, and it will quietly fade into the
winter after all the hype in July.
