Blind Luck covered seven furlongs ahead of her Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic prep race, the Lady’s Secret on 1 October
Easily the best older horse running out right now, Blind Luck, the 4-year-old filly is gearing herself up for her next start, which is likely to be in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret on 1 October, 2011, at Santa Anita Park, where she could go on to endure stiff
competition.
The six time Grade 1 winning Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly turned in a seven furlong breeze, covering in 1 minute and 26.20 seconds on 21 September, 2011, at Hollywood Park.
It was a solid workout session for Blind Luck, as trainer Jerry Hollendorfer confirmed that her next probable start will be in the Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita, where she could meet the winner of Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch, Ultra Bend, and also the multiple
grade 1 winner, Ask the Moon.
It was either the Grade 1 $250,000 Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita or the Grade 1 $350,000 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park on the same day, but Jerry Hollendorfer said it would be easier to get Blind Luck to Santa Anita rather than Belmont Park.
At the moment, Blind Luck’s ultimate goal is to run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic to be held at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011, and Grade 1 Lady’s Secret would serve as a prep race for that goal.
Sending Blind Luck on a plane cross country and go back again doesn’t make sense to trainer Jerry Holendorfer, and to run her at Santa Anita makes most sense.
However, Blind Luck’s bitter rival, Havre de Grace, will do the opposite, as she will go on to use the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes as a prep for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic against the males.
Jerry Hollendorfer has already said no to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, saying, "I'm not running her in the Classic". The Hall of Famer added, "I don't believe in that. If others want to do it, God bless them. If we win the Ladies' Classic, that's plenty good
for us".
Blind Luck is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap, in which she nosed out Havre de Grace at her own backyard, and now is ready to take on fillies and mares in the Lady’s Secret.
