Blind Luck may start in the million dollar Pacific Classic at Del Mar, Personal Ensign under consideration
Champion 4-year-old chestnut filly, Blind Luck, probably will be up against males for the first time in her career in the $1 million, Pacific Classic at Del Mar on 28 August, 2011.
Pacific Classic is the richest race of the Del Mar meet, with a million dollar purse guaranteed.
If the filly makes the pursuit for the Pacific Classic, then she will bypass a trip for a late summer stakes race in New York.
Blind Luck was the 2010 champion filly and has gone on to win 12 races out of her 21 career starts, which yielded her a massive earnings of $3,279,520.
Her career wins include 10 graded stakes win, with seven runners up positions and twice finishing third.
The ones to look out for, that could be the next possible start for the filly is the Pacific Classic at Del Mar or the $300,000 Grade 1 Personal Ensign.
If trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, opts for the Personal Ensign, then there is a possibility of Blind Luck going up against her archrival, Havre de Grace.
Trainer Larry Jones recently revealed that the 4-year-old filly will contest in the Personal Ensign if the price is right, meaning the purse is doubled, if doubled it would go up to $600,000.
The Personal Ensign is run at 1 ¼ miles and will be held at Saratoga on 28 August. Another race in contention for Blind Luck’s next start is the Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park on 28 August.
The race offers a purse of $250,000 and its run over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles. It is odd to see Jerry Hollendorfer to run a filly up against males, as he rarely does that.
The last time he did it and came out successful was with Pike Palace, who went on to win the California Derby back in 1996 against an all males lineup. Palace Pike went on to claim Kentucky Oaks for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer after her successful run against
the males.
The same happened with another Hollendorfer filly, Hystericalady, who went on to win an Allowance optional claimer against the males in 2007, and after a month later, the filly went on to win the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs.
Blind Luck is coming off a successful run in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap for 3 year old and above fillies and mares at Delaware Park on 16 July, 2011.
There she beat her arch rival in an emphatic comeback from behind surge under Garrett Gomez.
Despite her next start, the 3-year-old champion filly worked a 5 furlong breeze in a minute, and she did it alone.
