Blind Luck ruled out of Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic after a disappointing run in the Lady’s Secret
The 6 to 5 heavily favoured in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Santa Anita, Blind Luck was never a factor in the race and finishes a disappointing last 18 ¾ lengths behind the victorious 3-year-old filly Zazu.
The development made the 65-year-old Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer to announce that Blind Luck will definitely not run in the Breeders’ Cup this year, which is to be held at Churchill Downs on 4-5 November.
The 4-year-old filly was using the Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita as a prep race for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic, and after throwing in a bad race at Santa Anita it has left everyone including trainer Jerry Hollendorfer bemused and said that she
has never done that before.
Jockey Garrett Gomez eased Blind Luck in the final furlong, but the ace filly has come out of the race just fine, with no signs of injury.
The daughter of Pollard’s Vision, out of Lucky One by Best of Luck, Blind Luck was pointed to the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic as her ultimate goal at the end of the year, a race which she ran in second last year.
Blind Luck who never finished worse than 3rd, finished 7th in the Lady’s Secret, which left Jerry Hollendorfer disappointed who took solace with a philosophical mindset, but added “We are big boys and have to take the bad with the good”.
On the outside, Blind Luck has come out of the race fine and she is not showing any signs of incurring an injury in the beginning, during and after the race, but Hollendorfer to be on the safe side is going ahead with a nuclear scan to detect a problem,
if any.
This year Blind Luck scored three runners up finishes in a row and then turned the next three races into victories, including the Grade 2 La Troienne, Grade 1 Vanity Handicap and the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap.
The daughter of Pollard’s Vision has gone on to win 12 life time starts out of 22, with the earnings of $3,279,520, and she is expected to add more to her record as she is tentatively expected to race next year.
