Blind Luck to stay at home and make the Pacific Classic a possibility
Jerry Hollendorfer trained Blind Luck would be looking to extend her hot 3-race winning streak to 4, at home, because she is not going to New York or New Jersey for races on 28 August, 2011.
Blind Luck is skipping the Personal Ensign and Molly Pitcher and the filly’s participation in the $1million 1 ¼ mile Pacific Classic is not a certainty as well.
According to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Blind Luck will be staying at home and her connections must decide between the Pacific Classic or the October 1st Santa Anita feature race, the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes.
The last year Eclipse Award winning 3-year-old filly will be making her first start against males if she is pointed towards the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at the Del Mar racecourse.
It’s a race run over a distance of 10 furlongs, and the 1 ¼ mile event will most likely reel in eighteen contenders for the grand Saratoga feature race.
Come 24 August, a dozen runners would be finalised for making a possible start in the 28 August Pacific Classic.
Blind Luck is owned by Mark Dedomenico and conditioned by Jerry Hollendorfer, who made it pretty clear that he will not run the filly in the Pacific Classic until and unless everything is 100% in their favour and they will most certainly not go to New York.
The hesitation about a start against males, has much to do with the fact that Blind Luck’s ultimate goal is the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic.
Blind Luck was sent as the 3 to 2 favourite to win the race last year, but she ended up as the runner-up.
With the Breeders’ Cup just around the corner, Jerry Hollendorfer seems to want to choose the right races for his 2010 champion 3-year-old filly, so that they can successfully nail their long term goal this year.
Blind Luck has gone on to win 12 starts out of the 21 life time starts that she has had, with the life time earnings of a whopping $3,279,520.
She has carried her good form from 2010 into the year, and she has won 3 of her races out of 6 starts this year.
Blind Luck is 3-3-0 this year, and any trainer would be proud of these stats, especially considering the level she competes at.
It seems as if the much anticipated clash between her archrival, Havre de Grace, is not on the cards, after defeating Havre de Grace at her home turf in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap at Del Mar racecourse on 16 July, 2011, over a classic distance of 1 ¼
miles.
Time will tell whether the champion filly will go for the richest race of the Del Mar meeting and be the lone female among males, or she opts for Saratoga for the Personal Ensign or any other race.
