Blind Luck will be skipping the Pacific Classic for the Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita on 1 October
It was revealed a little earlier this week by trainer and co-owner, Jerry Hollendorfer, that his star filly, Blind Luck, will be considering the Grade 1 Pacific Classic against males at Del Mar on 28 August, but the decision has been reversed and now Blind
Luck is going for the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita on 1 October, 2011.
Jerry Hollendorfer further briefed about his filly’s future that the co-owner and trainer is looking at the bigger picture and not just one race. He is worried about Blind Luck’s future.
It is evident that Hollendorfer is looking for the safest route possible to their ultimate goal, the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic.
He supported that fact and said that he is aiming at that race, and a prep race would be necessary before the big Breeders’ Cup feature at Churchill Downs this fall, the Lady’s Secret, a perfect prep race for the 4-year-old filly.
Running against the males has its disadvantages, because a lone filly could carry an injury and it is more of a psychological thing as well that could throw off Blind Luck couple of months before the Breeders’ Cup.
It is a decision taken to safeguard the filly, and possibly look to keep her running and winning as long as possible, before ruining her career pursuing greatness in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic against males.
Pacific Classic is a very tough race for a colt, let alone a filly, and there is a huge possibility that Jerry Hollendorfer would be compromising her champion filly’s future chances.
Although she is 3 of 4 starts at Del Mar, Jerry Hollendorfer thinks his filly doesn’t particularly like the Del Mar track too much.
Blind Luck has never finished worse than third in her entire 3-year-old career, is coming off a brilliant run as well, with 3 wins out of her last 3 starts.
The daughter of Pollard Vision has a whopping $3,279,520 lifetime earnings with 12 wins under her belt, 7 second place finishes and twice third in all of her 21 starts.
It could turn out to be a good decision, which allows Blind Luck to relax and rest and gives her time to prepare for the Breeders’ Cup challenge.
