Blind and disabled golfers get the opportunity of playing golf – Golf News
The blind and disabled golfers have been given the opportunity of playing with some of the legends of the game prior to the start of the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship at De Vere Slaley Hall.
The tournament is scheduled to start from June 7 to 10, 2012. The blind and disabled golfers will have the chance of playing alongside the contenders of the tournament on June 5, 2012.
De Vere plans to hold the qualifying events in the month of May with 24 spots in each of the events.
Two players from each event will take part in the finals. Thereafter, the top three players will be selected to participate in the three-hole Celebrity-Pro Challenge.
The final challenge will be played at the Hunting course, the host of the PGA Championship.
"This is a great opportunity for blind and disabled golfers to compete at some of the UK's leading golf resorts," said Daniel Hodson, De Vere's Director of golf, leisure & spa.
"For those new to the sport, they will be able to speak to one of our PGA Professionals and receive a free lesson, while more experienced golfers have the chance to win a great trip to the flagship event on the European Senior Tour and play alongside golf
legends and sporting celebrities," he added.
Golf fans and followers have greatly appreciated the idea of organising an event for the less privileged and disabled players. This will help in building their self-confidence and it will add joy to their lives.
Moreover, the idea of not charging the fee as well as offering all the services without any cost will add to the popularity of the event.
As a result, it will also provide an excellent start to the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship at the Northumberland resort.
The tournament officials have announced the dates of the qualifying events that are as follows: Slaley Hall (May 8), Belton Woods (May 9), Wokefield Park (May 10) and Mottram Hall (May 15).
De Vere and ISPS Handa are encouraging players to participate in the event that will offer a memorable day of golf in their lives.
