Blind cyclist Hein Wagner to take part in Absa Cape Epic mountain bike race – Cycling news
Blind cyclist Hein Wagner has said that he will take part in the upcoming Absa Cape Epic mountain bike race.
The encouragement behind this marvellous individual has been provided by the Gerrie Oliver, who has participated in such races previously.
Both met at the 2010 Physical Asset Management Thought Leadership Conference, where Gerrie realised the hidden talent inside Wagner and asked him to participate in the upcoming event with him. He realised that they both have passion and ability to take the
step and hence he encouraged and supported Wagner.
Gerrie is not a professional cyclist and does not always aim to win each and every race rather he has passion and love for the sport. Therefore, he takes cycling as more of a fun and healthy activity. Bringing a blind man to this stage is an extremely new
challenge for him and the best part about it is that he is doing it for a noble cause.
Several preparatory steps have been taken to make the race a success. For that, they have already participated in 100km Karoo to coast. Both of them are working in a group aiming that they will be able to complete all days with ease.
Despite his blindness, Wagner’s confidence made him to overcome many challenges including sailing, sprinting, marathons, mountain climbing and driving.
This is the biggest challenge for the blind man and winning this particular event can add to the list of his adventurous stories. He believes that everything is possible but key component one needs is determination. If an individual is determined and firm
to achieve something then nothing can stop him or her from fulfilling their goals.
Wagner wants to become a role model for those with disabilities and prove them that if they have not been blessed by a particular ability, they can still take on the world and compete in every field.
