Blizzard announced Diablo 3 Starter Edition – Video Games Update
Today Blizzard has announced that gamers who are on the fence regarding Diablo 3 will get the chance to download and try the game themselves for free.
This move simply means that Blizzard is having a tough time maintaining the user base of Diablo 3 as it was reported earlier that gamers currently don’t have anything to look forward to once they finish the story mode.
Blizzard’s plan was to keep players hooked with the inclusion of the Real Money Auction House (RMAH) but apparently the chance to make a quick buck is not enough for players to keep on grinding through the same game again and again just to get better loot
to sell.
Diablo 3 has managed to sell over 10 million copies since launch but due to the lack of end game options, players are leaving the game once they are done with it. There are a lot of great blockbuster titles coming out this year and in order to keep people
playing, Blizzard has announced the free to play version of Diablo 3.
The starter edition will let gamers demo the game up until the Skeleton King boss in Act 1 and let them reach up to level 13 in the game before they are prompted to buy the full version. The Diablo 3 starter edition is available only from Battle.net and
Blizzard has provided details on the official Diablo 3 site for how to acquire the game.
Gamers will have to sign up at Battle.net and the Diablo 3 starter edition will automatically be added to their account. Gamers will however need the original Diablo 3 disc to install the game after which they can just log in with their battle.net account
and play it for free. Currently there is no announcement if the game will be available for download.
Blizzard has stated that the achievements and the unlocked items will be carried over to the full version of the game if players decide to upgrade at anytime. Blizzard has not reported if the Starter Edition gamers will be able to use the Real Money Auction
House or not as that seems to be the main draw of the game so far. The Starter Edition is now available and gamers can join the fight by logging onto Battle.Net.
