Blizzard introducing Game limits in Diablo 3 – Video Games Update
Blizzard has announced today that the developer is about to limit the number of games a player can create within a certain amount of time in order to get rid of bots which tamper with the Real Money Auction House (RMAH) economy.
Diablo 3’s real money auction house has been a target for gamers ever since it was announced. Add the fact that Diablo 3’s annoying always online digital rights management (DRM) lock, which prevents gamers from playing Diablo 3 if there is no internet connection
available, was probably also put in place so that Blizzard could monitor everyone playing so as to keep the RMAH economy in check.
It seems that Blizzard has taken its eyes off the ball for too long as every new update or fix is completely focused on or somewhat related to the RMAH and not the game itself. Diablo 3 sold over 6 million units at launch but because of an unsatisfying endgame,
the player count is rapidly falling and so far Blizzard isn’t doing anything to get them back.
Blizzard described the upcoming game limit on the Diablo 3 official forums and stated, “We've further tuned and tested the conditions that trigger this limit to ensure, as much as possible, that it only affects those abusing the Diablo III game service in
a way that violates the Terms of Use – for example, by using bots that create games in rapid succession. The use of bots not only impacts the stability of the game service, but it also has an impact on the player-driven economy.”
Blizzard also asked the gamers that they will need feedback from the community on deciding what limits should be placed and asked gamers that if they encounter an ‘Input Limit Reached’ message and they weren’t using bots or cheating they should contact Blizzard
and explain why they had created so many games.
It’s nice to see Blizzard taking the cheater problem seriously as they have a ban wave planned to get rid of all the bots and hackers but can they really afford to lose any more players than they already have? They just might if the ban waves and the game
limits end up annoying legitimate customers who are still playing the game.
