Question:

Block Foundation: Email for pictures!!?

I have a problem here. I have a section on my block foundation that I think used to be a stoop that came out of the house into the drive way and they removed some time ago. Well when they did some reason it was built into the block foundation or attach I am not certain. But anyways they tried to fill it in with some small brick and didn't seal it or anything. All the water drains into my craw space from the drive way. I have a attached picture and can take more if you need them. I am just curious how intense it would be to take them out and replace them with new block and mortar it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  1. This should be an easy job that any mason can do. I had to do something similar on one of my properties when I removed concrete steps that were crumbling. If you are not concerned about how it looks you could probably do it yourself. If you want it to look nice you should hire a mason.

Also if you have water running into your crawl space that means you have negative drainage around your home. This can cause rain water to drain toward the foundation instead of away from it. This can lead to more serious issues later. Here is a link explaining proper grading around the home: http://www.expertvillage.com/video/54421...
