Question:

Blocked driveway, illegal parking?

I live in an apartment building where almost daily someone parks their car blocking the driveway or entrance to the building. Some nights half of the car is sticking out blocking entry or exit from our driveway! How can people be so stupid and think they can fit behind another car that already parked close to the driveway entrance? It is really annoying, especially if you are driving out and someone else is driving into the building. Is there a law against this? Who can I call when this happens? There is no apartment manager and landlord don't live here either so complaining to them is useless.

  1. You could try calling the city parking department. They might allow you to put up cones on the sides of the driveway.

  2. It is against the law call the police.

  3. call the tow truck next time

  4. OMG i think we live in the same apartment complex! I would try leaving a note on the cars that block the exit telling them that if their car is hit while parked illegally blocking the exit they will not have any legal rights for damages. Print it on a computer and make copies as I'm sure it will take quite a few. Might at least scare some of them into parking responsibly.

  5. yes there is a law on this> i do not know what law but if you call the city that you live in they can help to inform you on witch code it would be.  or if you call a police officer he will have  a trafic code book.  this can be real bad in case of a fire.  these are the same one that are in my drive way.  LOL.  I hope the best and if they are there you can call a ask a police officer to place a ticket.

  6. you can call a tow truck to their expense, what if there is an emergency and the ambulance cant go inside the building or what happens when your in a hurry and don't have a 5 minutes to locate the idiot who did illegal parking, you shouldn't have to deal with that what if your leaving for work and cant find the driver of the car, your life can be affected by this, i know how annoying it can be, you have to change your routine just because some loser cant find a place to park at least i had a apt manager that left fliers that cars would be towed, so you can do the same tow there cars because we all have a right to be able to leave or come into our parking space without the struggle of trying to get out, call the tow truck if they don't care if your late to work or have an emergency and have to leave fast why should you care about them, they had it comming

  7. depends on where you live. There's no law where I live, but a lot of places do have a law saying you can't block someone's driveway. Call the cops next time it happens, they'll either do something about it, or just tell you they can't do anything. can't hurt.

  8. It is very simple, all you need to do is call the police because you cannot block a driveway at all...........

  9. where are you located?  That's one of the questions you get asked to pass the Learner's licence test in NSW, Australia.  I don't drive, but I did have my L's many years ago and...yeh, you can't park in a/across a driveway.

There should definitely be a law.

Contact the local council (but they are usually useless anyway, but it's worth a shot, they might make $$ from fining people), or police when it happens.  If they don't do anything I'l leave a note on the car windscreen stating:

"You have parked in a no-parking zone (or whatever), your rego details have been taken.  If you are found to be parked in this area again you will be fined/clamped".  That's what they did in my building once (it's a little white lie but when no one else did anything it worked).

If all else fails, smash their windows or let out the air in their tyres. (jokes!)

    good luck

  10. We have a law that you must be at least 5m clear away from the driveway

  11. 911 or Parking enforcement.... Blocking a driveway is also a fire code violation. Get a ticket slapped on one of the cars that should end the problem..

  12. have there  *** towed
