Blonde Carlos upsets The Coral Romford Sprint
Blonde Carlos galvanised a big upset last night at Romford greyhound racing track by beating his hot favourite competitor, Hercules, to lift the title of The Coral Romford Sprint.
In the 225m Open Race on February 10, the brindle dog broke from trap 3, and consumed 13.65 seconds to reach the finish line. Trained by M T Dennis, the dashing hound unleashed immense firepower on the course to wrest triumph from, Hercules, who was
the 7 to 4 favourite for the event.
It was Blonde Carlos’ second victory since the dawn of 2012. Earlier, he won a race by 3 ¼ lengths on January 20. Interestingly, it was also the second success of his career which began in July, 2011. The novice runner lost first nine races in a row
after making his debut.
It is hoped that this triumph will prove to be a great stepping stone for the dog. If he manages to carry forward this momentum, he is destined to accomplish big things during the calendar year. Moreover, he is also likely to earn favourite tags in
the future events.
The winner’s trainer, M T Dennis, is also pleased with what his trainee has achieved, while competing against senior hounds. He hopes that, Blonde Carlos, will replicate this outstanding performance in the subsequent contests as well.
Hercules, despite demonstrating enough aggression, and sheer pace, got trailed by ¾ of a length, and finished second in the race. Breaking from trap 4, he crossed the boundary strap in 13.71 seconds. The black dog is trained by J W Reynolds.
Droopys Zino achieved the third top spot. The white and blue b***h bridged the distance in 13.81 seconds, after breaking from trap 6. The trainee of J A White lagged 1 ¼ lengths behind.
Among other three hounds, Air Force Solo finished fourth, while Spearhead and Clarecastle Dub finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
During the post-race presentation ceremony, the winner bagged 1st cash prize of £175, while the second position holder got £40. Each of other four runners earned £20. As whole, it was a thrilling and amazing event packed with
twists and turns.
