Blonde Snapper lands Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby at Wimbledon
Blonde Snapper gave a dramatic end to the Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby, producing an unexpected result in the grand finale at Wimbledon on Saturday, May 26th. M. Wallis’ dashing hound upset the 6-4 favourite, Farloe Ironman, by 1¾ lengths to win the £125000 event.
With odds of 8 to 1, Blonde Snapper started off the proceedings from the sixth trap. Despite getting crowded early on, the October-08 son of Droopys Kewell attained a decent lead at the first bend.
After establishing his dominance, the maverick hound never looked behind, keeping his rivals under tremendous pressure all the way through. Consequently, he sealed the top position by a decent margin.
Farloe Ironman was runner-up while the third spot went to Coolavanny Bert, who failed to grab the second position by three and a half lengths.
It was a gleaming day at Wimbledon, as the venue hosted plenty of mega events. The spectators saw Olivers Twist dominating the proceedings in the finale of Williamhill.com Champion Hurdle.
The £1500 meeting saw the black dog getting a handsome lead soon after beginning. L. Stephenson’s trainee retained his advantage till the finishing line, seizing the top place by two and a half lengths. Baran Bally Hi did well to lock the runner-up place. D. Knight’s trainee beat Clonkeen Theo comfortably to seal the spot.
Williamhill.com Derby Invitation Stakes saw Bubbly Phoenix doing an excellent job in the Williamhill.com Derby Invitation Stakes. With the highest odds of 7 to 4, the white and black dog began the act from the sixth trap.
Dominating the affair from pillar to post, P. Young’s trainee clinched the victory by seven and a half lengths. Caribbean Rich’s second position was a huge surprise for the bookmakers, who were expecting Charlie Lister’s charge, Boher Paddy, to seal the spot.
Williamhill.com Dorando Marathon was won by Ayamzagirl, trained by M. Wallis. It was an exciting event, as all candidates gave each other a real hard time in the early hours of the meeting.
However, the white and black b***h succeeded in overtaking her opponents at the seventh bend. After taking a lead, she made no mistake and ensured the first position by a length’s distance. The 1-2 favourite, Bubbly Capel, was lucky to nab the runner-up place, as Maudabawn Jenny was behind just by a neck’s distance.
