Question:

Blood Python Bedding?

A friend of mine sand for her Blood Python? Is this appropriate substrate? I use bark for my boa constrictor and coconut substrate for my gray treefrog. She says she likes to use the sand because it keeps the cage cleaner. I'm not sure if it is healthy though. Although, I've never owned a blood python, so I guess I wouldn't know. Just wondering what is best.

  1. Aspen is the best for Bloods. Avoid sand its to rough for the blood's skin

  2. Sand is horrible for a blood python. They need higher humidity than most other snakes, and sand only lowers the humidity and can cause shedding problems, and the low humidity can also cause respiratory problems. I use cypress mulch for my blood pythons, which I buy for $2 for a huge bag from Home Depot.
