  1. Odds are pretty high. It's sad how people don't realize the situations that happen over the diamonds that they where on their fingers, necks, and wrists, it's very sad.

  2. Actually there is a very big chance that it is NOT a blood, or conflict, diamond. Because of events similar to those portrayed in the film Blood Diamond finally receiving global condemnation, international law now states that ALL diamond exporters must register their diamonds with their respective governments; this was known as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, and Liberian diamond sales were banned, as was the travel of Liberian officials (not sure if the ban is still in place). There are of course some that slip through the net and then there's the black market, and corruption within governments but it is now quite a relatively small percentage compared to ten or fifteen years ago. Thankfully the situation in Sierra Leone (where I think the film was based) is now much better, and though there are still problems the area is at peace, but it took 10 years before the international community intervened. Whenever you buy a diamond you should ask the retailer to show you proof of its origin, that way you are helping limit the problem. I also doubt the diamond in your link is a conflict diamond simply because the auctioners would not want the inevitable public outcry and negative publicity that the selling of such a diamond would cause.
