What is the red stuff that is packaged along with ground beef; naturally one would believe it to be blood, but I have heard that it is red dye to enhance appeal of a "red meat".

  1. it would be blood..they actually pump carbon dioxide into the meat to keep it red..carbon dioxide is a gas..so it is blood..which is normally..

  2. It is dye. Beef naturally has a brown colour, so they dye it because that's why people expect it to look like.

  3. could be either. Most likely it's blood.

  4. There is blood, but there is a dye also.  If you do not eat it and let it sit in the freezer for a few days, the dye will wear off.  It will look kind of brown. Would you buy meat that looks brown?  However, it is still ok to eat if it was frozen.  You will also find that the middle of it is slightly brown, and the blood should all go to the bottom.

  5. yes the red stuff is dye to make the ground beef look fresh
