Question:

Blood python shed problem?

by  |  earlier

Hi all,

My blood python shed the other day but the only part that hasn't come off is the head part. There's some flapping skin by the neck and I gently tried to pull it but it doesn't come away too easily. Problem is, I can't soak her entire head for hours so what's the best course of action?

Thanks x

  1. Put the snake into a pillow case tie the top soak then wait the moisture of the wet pillow case will automatically remove stuck shed.

  2. Hello; I have had a similar problem in the past with my Blood pythons and Ball pythons, so I should be able to help on this one. :)

While many people use the soaking method successfully; I have heard too many horror stories for me to feel completely comfortable soaking my snakes for long periods of time. What I generally do is get an appropriately sized Rubbermaid container with a secure fitting lid, fill it half way up with warm, wet towels, and put my snake in there for twenty minutes to a half hour.

After that time is up, I try to gently remove the shed. Often times the snake seems to realize what is going on and has removed most (if not all) of the shed itself by the time the twenty minutes to a half hour is up. The shed will generally come off easily. If it doesn't, I re-soak the towels in more warm water, put my snake back in the container, and  try again in another twenty minutes. That method of removing the shed poses little to no risk to my snakes, and has worked perfectly for me in the past. :)

Anyway; that is my two cents. ;)

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you.

Good luck with your Blood python!

  3. I Have A Ball Python,As Far As I'm Concerned All Snakes Shed The Same So Here We Go.

Fill your bathtub up with about 2 inches of "WARM" water,And leave him/her in their for about 10-25 minutes. It should come off....

Good Luck Hope This Works For You:)

  4. I have alot of bobtails that I help shed with, so I've done this before with reptiles ;)

If it doesn't come off too easily with a gentle tug, then i would suggest putting some warm water (not hot) on your fingers, rub it over the flapping skin and then gently peel it away.

You can't expect it to come off straight away, but it will in time - just help it come off about 2-3 times a day and the python will do most itself ;)

    be gentle with it =)
