Blood test for pregnancy?

We went to a hospital in Bangalore, India to take a blood test for pregnancy And we were asked to consult a doctor before taking a test. Is that so? Can one not take a test without consulting a doctor? Is there any specific reason why we need to consult a doctor?

  1. Do you have a dr. who can adminster the blood test? You usually go to your dr. for a blood test, not the hospital. The hospital is for people that have an emergency, are sick, or giving birth, not for finding out if you are pregnant. Call your dr. and tell him that you think you are pregnant and ask to schedule a blood test.
