I was just wondering if by blood test doctors can tell if you have an STD, i'm not worried but i never got a vaginal check when I was first pregnant. Only a blood test, can you detect STDs with only a blood test? I'm 36 weeks already and i get my first vaginal check up on Monday to see if i'm dialated. Thanks

  1. Some are detected with blood tests like HIV which is always offered during pregnancy.  Some are found through urine tests, others by swabs done during your papsmear.

  2. Some STD's can be detected by blood test, others only by examination/swabbing.

  3. The blood tests they do in the beginning look for HIV and Chlamidia.  The swabs done are for group b strep (not an std.)
