Bloody Show or Mucus Plug?

Question

Since I was 37 weeks I have been dilated to 1 cm and I have been loosing mucus that was streaked with brown blood. Tonight I am 39 weeks and lost a big blob of mucus that also had brown blood in it. How can I tell if this is bloody show or just more mucus plug?

Well when I had bloody show it was after I had contractions already--I lost my mucous plug for 2 weeks and it was bloody too. I would wait for contractions, or maybe just call your ob to be sure. Congrats mommy!!

They are one in the same but you probably have lost your entire mucous plug now, because the part of it that is closest to the cervix has the most blood due to the extra circulation during pregnancy.

I was told that the mucus plug comes out when you start to dilate, and you have your bloody show when your cervix starts to soften.  I lost my plug around 25 or 26 weeks, but had my bloody show, (all day long), the day before I delivered my daughter.

Probably both. I never had either when I went into labor. The Doc said my body tempurature melted away the mucus plug. Weird huh? Either way, congrats to you...not much longer!!!!

Really, it's one in the same, just by a different name. I've lost mucus all along, however, when you lose your plug, it's very different in that it's a LOT more... quite frankly, it's startled me a lot when I lost mine because of how much it was!

Mine were never tinged with blood or anything, but some are... it sounds like you might have lost it... it may also be that you lost part and you lose the rest in a week or so. That's what happened with mine.

Sounds like your mucus plug. That is EXACTLY what happened with me. It was really grose to. If you are concerned, talk with your OBGYN and they can clarify even more so.
