I should be ashamed to have to ask, but does anyone know, with certainty, in what year Southern Pacific introduced the "Bloody Nose" paint scheme, which replaced the "Black Widow?"

Thanks

  1. Source: Wikipedia

"In 1959 SP standardized on a paint scheme of dark grey with a red "winged" nose; this scheme was dubbed Bloody Nose by railfans."

  2. A couple of answers:

Actually, there were several trial paint schemes between the Black Widow and Bloody Nose.  Including the dreadful Halloween or Pumpkin schemes (orange and black.)  As well as variations on the Daylight scheme.

In the end, Lark Grey and Scarlet Red won out: the Bloody Nose.

    This website says 1958.

The GG RR Museum say July 1958 was probably the starting point.
