Blow for Reds as Mike Harris ruled out – Super Rugby update
Mike Harris the utility back for the Reds has been signalled to undergo a knee surgery.
This development means that the utility back has been ruled out of the next clash on Friday against Blues. It will be a top of the table clash and the most anticipated Super Rugby affair so far.
The New Zealand based player will go for a surgeon in a day. Harris picked this injury on his kneecap in the clash against Melbourne Rebels. It was a late incident in to the match, as the Reds took an easy victory over Rebels with a final score of 33-18
on the board, this weekend.
It is feared that an operation will be required for this injury and if that happens then Harris will surely be ruled out for a minimum time period of four weeks. This sudden development is nothing more than a blow to the Reds, as he has been a key player.
After leaving his previous club, North Harbor and joining Reds, Harris has proved to be that one key factor on which the Reds relied in tough situations. He was a relief when he showed up against the top Australian clubs and paved way for the Reds.
Ewen McKenzie, the Reds head coach is concerned about the situation and has currently announced the inclusion of Ben Tapuai on Harris’s position. Tapuai is a specialist inside center and can be relied on, but there is another option of moving Anthony Faingaa
to Harris’s place and upgrade Will Chambers to the outside center. This will again be the same combination that Reds used in 2010 for its center attack.
Greg Homes, the reserve also picked up an injury. His presence is in doubts due to an elbow infection, which became evident against the clash against Rebels last week. The upcoming clash in Suncorp Stadium seems to be in doubts for these two bug guns and
McKenzie has a lot to worry about.
There is some relief for the coach though, as Luke Morahan, the winger and Ben Lucas, the full back will be returning from their shoulder and leg injuries respectively. Both of them were cleared by the doctors this week and will be fit to play against Blues.
