Blown copier. 120v plugged to 220v?

I just messed up my Sharp A 336 Digital Imager. It uses 120V but my voltage here is 220. Though I use step down to power it but I just did the opposite now and it has blown. Please before I call the specialist is there any simple thing I should do that can keep it working?

Thanks.

  1. There's nothing, simple or otherwise, which you can do.

Except, hopefully, learn from your silly mistake.

  2. maybe because a transformer steps down the voltage but it increases current! you may be lucky and have just blown a fuse. you could try taking it apart and checking the fuses with a multimeter.

there may be several fuses in the machine but there is usually 1 primary fuse near the entrance of the power cable.

  3. Could the copier have drawn too much current, which the transformer couldn't handle, hence it 'blew'.

Why don't you buy one locally that uses 220V straight out of the box? Much simpler than messing around with transformers.

  4. You may get away with it, most equipment has overload protection so check the fuse first, some may have a thermal trip which should reset when it cools down, if you are really unlucky you are going to need a new PSU which should be easy enough to find on the net, but hopefully it's just a blown fuse.

  5. Sorry but there's no simple thing you cud do about it. Maybe the power source burn when you connected 220 currency. Hopefully the copier itself didnt blew and is just maybe the power source. But there's no simple thing you cud do unless a friend of yours knows how to "unplug" the power source from the copier and just change it for you which cud cost you no more than $100.
