Can anyone tell me what may have happened to my car? I was driving down the road on my way to work this morning when I started to hear a squeaking noise. I have no idea what it was, I turned off the radio to listen but then I didn't hear it anymore. I though maybe it was the breaks, so I kept driving. I then noticed a faint smell of smoke, like exhaust or something, but I didn't see any smoke on my car, so I though it was maybe the car next to me putting off the smell. Then, my car started sputtering, like it does when it runs out of gas maybe and when I tried to press the gas to go, it would not accelerate. The gas just didn't work, and also it was smoking badly under the hood. I then pulled into a store parking lot and the steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. When I stopped and got out, it was smoking really really badly under the hood and I noticed a trail of fluid from the street to where I parked and there was a huge puddle under my car. Also the oil light came on as I was pulling in the parking lot. When I opened the hood, there was fluid everywhere, I'm not sure if it was oil or not. I have only had it for 3 months but I bought it from a used car dealership and there is no warranty. I was just wondering if anyone might know what happened to it? Thanks for all your help.

By the way, it is a 2004 Dodge Intrepid and it has 101,000 miles.

My dad was with me when I bought, he pretty much picked out the car and told me where to sign and he paid the down payment and everything. This is my first car. He took it to a mechanic who said there was an oil leak and then he fixed it while my dad watched him. They also put new tires on the car.

Okay, also the check engine light came on the day after I bought it and everyone told me not to worry about it, but I took it to advanced auto parts and they put the thingie on and told me it was the oxygen sensor and the knock sensor making the light come on. My dad told me not to worry about it and the light has been on ever since then.

  1. Knock sensors do just that...detect knocks. A bad 02 sensor would cause your car to run rich, you would notcie a stron exhaust smell from the back of the vehicle smelling like unburnt or partially burnt fuel. So what exactly did the mechanic fix to stop the oil leak? The oil pan? Seriously knowing Dodge's, especially the Intrepids for being lemons, you probably bought a previously abused vehicle which cant take a beating very well, and threw a rod through the block or oil pan.

  2. it sounds like you siezed the power steering pump and tore up the belt

you should have it towed to a shop and have them diagnose the problem

  3. Well what is the fluid? Does it smell sweet or smell like oil?  What color is it?  When you suspect something like that, always look at your temp guage to see if you are overheating. if so, pull over immediately. The fluid is probably your coolant. A hose or something in the cooling system probably came loose.  IF you didn't drive very long after loosing the fluid, you might be alright. It needs towed though, do not even attempt to start it.

  4. It sounds like it may have overheated and cracked the block.

You should always pull a car over if it start doing stuff like that - it might have something simple, but once you continued driving it while it ran out of oil and now, you are probably going to go break out some serious bucks to fix it.

    Good luck!!

  5. first guess is you blown a hose of somekind...... and really anytime you have any kind of light its a warning so what you do is stop where ever your  are and check it out before driving any more ....

  6. if you blew your head gasket u will see oil & water mixed together on the oil dipstick If you thruogh a rod theres probley no oil in the car as far as the steering locking up your power steering punp coulda took a dump and that could also be the fluid u see

  7. Sounds like a belt broke and you severely overheated it. Get it towed to a shop.

  8. from what you are saying it is the power steering pump and fluid you see and also maybe one of the belts on the car broke that would be why no power when you pushed the gas
