Blu-Ray Drive and Vista Media Center?

Hello;

I have a Vista Media Center PC (HP) that is hooked up to my 50in Plasma. Its been fine and working for a while now. I am now looking to buy a Blu-Ray drive to watch HD Movies (now that the format war is over). The graphics card is an Nvidia 7500LE. So I was wondering If I could get a Blu-Ray drive and install it. If so....does Vista Media Center support Blu-Rays? I know that Microsoft placed their bets on HD-DVD so im not sure if they would support Blu-Ray. The drive would obviously come with software to play it, but I like everything to be on Media Center, cause the rest of the family isn't as tech savvy as I am. So anywise thats the question. Thanks in advance!

  1. HP does have some pc's with blu ray drives so you shouldn't have a problem.  Go to HP and search for your model and it should show you what options are available and compatible with your set up.  Also I'm guessing you mean that you have Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate.  They have the media center software installed.

    Good Luck

  2. You can install a Blu-ray drive. However, it most likely will not output HD video unless your Video card has a fully functioning HDCP ouput working in cojunction with your HDCP capable TV.
