I have a 52 inch Samsung Lcd 1080p

I recently looked at best buy for a blu ray player. The one i saw in my price range that looked nice was the player model BDP-S300...I read some reviews about not getting updates for the newer blu ray profiles coming out on the newer blu ray disks...but i also read you can burn the update from your computer to a disk and put it on your player..???...Also i read theres 2 new blu ray players coming out in a couple months and you can connect to the internet with the players for updates...If this really doesnt matter i would go ahead and get the player i saw at best buy today...Is it a good buy?

Theres a couple movies i want to watch like i am legend in blu ray on my tv...Any info on the subject and suggestions are highly appreciated thanks.

  1. Don't get a standalone player get the PS3

  2. Yes, You can burn updates to a dvd and put them in your player. One problem is the BDP-S300 will never have profile 1.1 or 2.0. Those would require additional hardware inside of the player. The firmware update that Sony offers for that model improves the BD-Java Interactive issue which fixes the long loading time. To add to the other guy comments. The PS3 also had the same Java loading problem on certain movies. The firmware update fixed it.

If you don't care about having picture in picture or an Ethernet connector on the back then that player will produce the same 1080p quality as the PS3.

One thing I like about Best buys extended warranty plan. If you bought it and played it for 3 months or so and take it back because it quit working due to profiles.  jk

They give you a newer model of the same dollar value for a replacement if that older model is no longer available. No hassles. Hang on to that receipt. But I don't know who would do something like that to a store  :)

  3. The replacement is the BDPS-350 due in a few months. It is profile 2.0 (which means that it is BD Live enable for internet upgrades and unlimited web extras and Bonus View enabled for the Picture in Picture bonus features) It is going to be release at $350. Also you won't have to use a BlueTooth remote control and can use a universal to operate the entire system unlike a PS3.

Wait if you want. I will.

  4. well let see no onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding; slow load times, particularly unbearable on newer BD Java discs like Pirates of the Caribbean; some minor video performance issues and no Ethernet port for firmware upgrades.

so for that price you are better buying the PS3 for $399.00

and you get all the above and a lot more beside be able to play PS3 games !!!!

  5. It would be better for you to buy a PS3 if you want to have internet connectivity for the updates.

Just so you know the PS3 is a very good blu-ray player, too. You can get 1 cheaper than the BD player you mentioned plus you can play games with it as well as internet surfing..
