  1. the difference between them is like beta MAX and VHS both similar but both are different. kinda like a cd and dvd both look the same but have way different ways of storing data. A normal dvd holds around 9GB of data on a dual layer dvd. a hd-dvd can hold around 20gb of data on a dual layer. and a blue ray disk can holf around 50gb of data on a dual layer disk. teh advantage to blue ray is that everything can be higher qualit including the sound a video. blue ray uses a blue laser to read the information on the disk. and the laser  is narrower so the data can be tighter together therefore storing more. also the blue ray disk has a nearly scratch resistant surface.

  2. Because Sony didn't get their way with their specs on on the HDDVD consortium - they created their own.  They've been charging higher prices for their BluRay player, so that's the motive.  HDDVD and Blu Ray have the same visual output (comparable 1080p players).  However, understand that (this is my answer today to the BRD vs HD question...)

I own HDDVD and would think now that BluRay has 70% of the studio market share that they have in fact won this round.  I don't see how the HD camp can do anything.  They definitely don't have a response except that "we're shocked" - no "we have a deal in the works" or anything.  They cancelled their CES press conference because they have no response that will matter.  MS doesn't care about HDDVD or it would have been on XBox 360's long ago.  I'm sure I'll be buying a BR player at some point - there are movies they have I want and only more now in the works.  So, Universal and Paramount can continue exclusive HDDVD support FOR NOW but that wasn't the answer to this move by Warner to keep HDDVD alive.  I would say it's a just a matter of time, but it's over.

I'm not buying a BluRay player until the price comes down to $150 for a good one and it wont be a Sony either just out of spite (Samsung is just fine with me).

  3. 1080p for bluray and 1080i for HD and many more movies are available for bluray then HD.
