From what I've heard, Blu Ray is winning. Does anybody think HDDVD still has a chance? Why?

  1. I don't think HD DVD still has a chance.....maybe if it had as much money to throw around at studios like Sony does it would have gotten the studios to go to its side.

The only chance it would have is if it can somehow get one of the big studios to come over to HD and then get a few more to follow afterwards. But I don't see that happening.

Too bad though.....although I have a dual format player I would still have liked to see HD DVD come out on top simply because their hardware is complete and won't require me to upgrade to a new player like with Blu-Ray.

  2. Unfortunately, the HD-DVD is on it's way out.  In the next few months you're going to see less and less retail shelf space allotted for the HD-DVD as Blu-ray Disc gains momentum.  Most of the major retailers (on-line, as well) are currently having sales on all HD-DVD players and movies to clear out their back-stock with no plans to re-order.  But there's no harm in waiting to purchase a Blu-ray Disc player.  The longer you wait, the less expensive and more user-friendly they'll become.  Be sure to check out our link for the "specifics" on how this format war came to an end.

  3. Blu-ray isn't winning. It has won.

Cnet.com has updated articles on HD-DVD and blu-ray with a recommendation "not to purchase HD-DVD" for this reason.

75% of the movie studios have signed on to blu-ray format, and the remaining big ones are only obligated by contract to HD-DVD for a specified period of time or has escape clauses that are likely to go into effect in May of 2008.   It is over for HD-DVD.

It is true that they are "upgrading" certain features in blu-ray disc players, but they also have done so with DVD players through the years.  So if you purchase a dedicated blu-ray player now, you may not be able to connect to the internet with it and download free trailers and clips.  No big deal for people who don't need that gimmicky features.   The PS3 can update itself, however.   With the PS3 and blu-ray players being the same price, it makes no sense to purchase a blu-ray player over a PS3 anyway.  The PS3 is an amazing blu-ray player as I have one connected to a very nice Sony LCD television.

Blu ray isn't winning.  It has won.

If you want to read articles on blu-ray, go to google and type in "blu-ray" under the "news" tab.

  4. remember sony's betamax? it was "winning". more combo-players are coming out. so i dont see either of them loosing any steam. get a combo player best of both worlds.

  5. I suggest you guys to hold off on buying Blu-Ray Players. As the newer bonus features such as Internet usage will come out around October, current players will not be able to play them.

So unless you get a ps3, it's better to be a bit more patient. Take a look at the source, a detailed article~
