i bought blood diamond on blu ray at best buy, and i played it on my samsung hdtv and it's not even clear, not even high definition it looks like a regular dvd(ohk maybe just a tiny bit better) i'm pretty sure my hdtv goes to 1080i may that be the problem?? because it will do 480p, 720p, and 1080i but won't go up to 1080p on my settings, i also have a hdmi cable as well

please help, how can i make it clear and experience true blu ray?? or even high definition at least. . thanks appreciate it

  1. Make sure that your display settings on the PS3 are set to HDMI and resolution to 1080i. Other than that I can't see why you're not getting a clear picture.

  2. It isn't the upscaling. 1080P BD movies are not upscaled because they are already 1080P.

To contrast it, play a movie you know looks good, like Ultra Violet. If Ultra Violet looks very good but Blood Diamond doesn't it is either a bad mastering, in which case you can do nothing, or it is supposed to look that way (sometimes movies are given a grainey look to set a grittier tone in the movie)

If Ultra Violet is having the same problem try taking the PS3 somewhere you can connect to a different TV to contrast it you your TV.

If your TV is an LCD, DLP, Plasma or LCOS it is 720P, 768P or 1080P. There is no such thing as a 1080i fixxed pixel display (even though you might see 1080i on the screen sometimes all that is telling you is the resolution of the signal coming into the TV)

If it is an older CRT projection TV or HD tube tv it would be 1080i.

  3. sounds like its upscaling ie check your ps3 settings -- also you should be able to bring up some sort of menu on your tv which shows in which resolution it is playing

On my tv it is displayed anytime the channel is displayed on the screen.

There is minimal difference between 1080i & 1080p - 99.9% of people couldnt tell the difference.
