  1. price will go down its only natural. Sharp just dropped the price of one of its players from $499 to $399. Amazon also has it now it $349

People say that prices are going to go up don't know what they are talking about. The blu-Ray industry would be shooting themselves in the foot if they raised prices. True there is no competition with HD-DVD anymore. But now the differant makers of Blu-Ray players and disc's will compete against each other. DVD players are continuing to drop in price and they are not in a format war with VHS anymore. More manufactureres = more products = lower prices.

  2. Well I really don't know but if you're going to plan to buy the low end of BluRay the $399 one, If I were you, I'd just buy the PS3.

Same price. But there's more features you could do.  You can add songs, pics, video, heck it's like your own mini computer CPU or something. It also has internet. And you can play games.

I don't play games on mine. I bought a PS3 instead of the low end blu-ray player because there's just more stuff you could do with it.  Than just a plain old BluRay player.

  3. Dont expect it right now, maybe in a few months.

  4. I can't confirm it, but here are my thoughts:

    1.  Consumer electronics prices have been dropping for decades.

    2.  Price drops tend to accompany bigger-volume mass production.

    3.  Now that Blu-Ray seems to have won the format war, production of HD-DVD players is likely to stop any time now.  That manufacturing capacity will likely be diverted to Blu-Ray.

    4.  Consumers who have been reluctant to commit now know what to buy.  So there will probably be an uptick in demand for Blu-Ray players in the short run (they're still pricey).  This will likely help keep the price up in the short term.

    5.  More manufacturers will now put resources into Blu-Ray production, now that the format war is settled.  More supply will mean lower prices.  At some point supply and demand will come into balance, and that will determine future prices.

    6.  I think there will be some dramatic price breaks to take advantage of Christmas 2008.

    Good luck!

  5. A recent LA times article on this predicts prices will be going up on players and disks.

And Sony will be coming out with a BluRay 2.0 spec that just happens to be incompatible with existing players so you will have to buy a new player.

This is what happens when you dont have competition.

  6. If anything, prices may go up, now that HD DVD is out of the picture.  No competition.
