so i have a ps3 and i decided to buy a blu ray movie to see if it was any good. i did and i bought an hdmi cable too but not a brand name one or expensive one. and i saw the movie and i think its worse than regular dvd. i can see pixels in the background sort of like a flicker on the screen. tv channels look better than this. and i have a 42 inch panasonic plasma. is it something im doing wrong or do i need to change the settings or what?

  1. well first change your output settings to make sure your outputting the resolution that matches your tv. id tell you but you didnt post the resolution of your tv on here. anyway if that isnt the problem its important to remember that some blu ray films will look better then others. some dont make the transfer very good. but if its that noticeable its most likely that your settings arent right. and the cable makes no difference. cheap or expensive a digital signal is either there or it isnt. so the quality wont be any better on an expensive one.

  2. Is your television 1080p capable? If it is being forced to downscale a higher resolution to it's native resolution, then 'artifacts' can result. Find out your t.v.s best high definition resolution(1080i, 720p, 720i, 576p, 576i?), and set the PS3 to output that resolution.

HDMI signals are digital signals, the quality of the cable should not affect the quality of the picture, just how long the cable lasts.

  3. Is your tv a 1080p it doens't matter if you have hdmi cables if you only have 1080i your bluray player will stretch the screen to the 1080p status but it will actually only be 1080i or 720p this is why the image looks like c**p if you do not have 1080p your not getting true bluray picture.

    I'm betting you have a 720p tv.

  4.       you may check some video settings on PS3 menu. You have to set HDMI out on BD/DVD and you match the resolution display of PS3 with TV.

  5. you have to make sure that you have an HDMI cable that is good enough for your TV...vice versa. Go back to where you bought it and get someone to help you. I went to bestbuy and got a great cable and my blu ray is amazing.

  6. maybe u got a tv like mine from 20 years ago
