Blu-ray question. please answer?

do you need a certain resolution or amount of pixels to play blu-ray on a hdtv? i know i need a blu-ray disc player.

  1. I'm not too clear on the question, but assuming you mean do you need a 1080p or would a 720p HDTV do ... either would be OK. Thats aid, to get the best/full benefit from Blu-ray you would be best with a 40"+ 1080p HDTV .... but a lower resolution model would work fine (best viewed at a bit longer distance than a similar sized 1080p model).  You would get NO benefit from Blu-ray on an SDTV and only very slight benefit on an EDTV.

    As an aside, upconverted DVDs would look very close to Blu-ray on a 720p HDTV ... and cost a lot less.

  2. Any HDTV resolution is fine (720p or better). It doesn't HAVE to be 1080p, although the higher the resolution, the better the picture you will see, especially at larger screen sizes.

    You do, of course, need a Blu-Ray player, and a HDMI cable connection between the player and HDTV.
