can a blu ray dvd be played in a normal dvd player?

  2. Sarah is partly correct. Blu-Ray players not only use different chips, but a totally different laser. Normal players use a red or an infrared laser which uses a comparatively long wavelength. Blu-Ray uses a blue laser which has a much shorter wavelength and therefore can read data that is packed much closer together. That is why a standard DVD can store 4.4MB or 8.8MB and Blu-Ray can store up to 50MB.

  3. no. but regular dvds can be played in a blu ray player :) and most of them increase the resolutions too! :D

  4. No. Blu ray refers to a special chip in the dvd player - It's of higher quality which means your probably just going to scratch the blu ray dvd in the dvd player - But in saying that normal dvd's can be played in the blu ray. Complex but it just works like that for some reason
