i am a teen about to give birth. i am covered under my moms insurance untill i am 22. the babys father has blue cross blue shield personal insurance (full coverage) and he said that the insurance company will cover the baby when he is born. i was wondering if this is true because we are not married. he will be on the birth certificate and the baby will have his last name. Also would it be possible for myself to be added on his plan after the birth.

  1. Depends on the specifics of his policy.

  2. Yes your bf can add the child to his insurance as a dependant, but you cannot be added because you have to be legally wedded.

  3. The baby would be considered his dependant and would be covered upon birth.  Some policies will allow you to be added regardless of marital status if you are also a dependant. It really depends on the company policy he works for.  If you are a dependant also, then he needs to ask his human resource department of he can add you on.
