Blue Devils claim 7th place at the fifth U.S. Collegiate Championship

The fifth U.S. Collegiate Championship was held outside Atlanta at the Georgia Golf Club on Tuesday. The event was hosted by Georgia Tech who claimed the win after five years and witnessed team Duke finish at the 7th place after
carding a total score of 872.
The University of Duke’s team, also known as the Blue Devils, played a tough match to end up with an 8 over. The team collected a 292 at the first round of the event and then carded a rather low and consistent score of 290's in
the last two rounds.
The winner of the tournament was team Georgia Tech which grabbed a victory after a 5 year deficit. Georgia Tech collected a highly consistent game and thus carded an 836 with a 28 under. The win was collected after a 27 stroke
lead over the team UCLA which played an 863. The third place was claimed by the team Texas A&M that played a 2 over game with an 866. Team USC and Team Virginia were the last two teams to fill up the top 5 teams at the U.S. Collegiate Championship after collecting
an 867 and an 870.
Between team Duke and the top 5 teams of the leader board, Wake Forest collected a seven over to stand at the sixth. Wake Forest played the last round of the event to collect an eight under to end up displaying an 871 in total.
To round up the top ten teams at the leader board, team California, team Florida State and team Kent State stood after scoring an 876, and 889s.
The medallist honour was handed to James White from the winning team Georgia Tech. The team was led by this junior who scored an impressive 62 with a 10 under at the last round. He finished first after 204 with a 12-under. The
second place was handed to T.J. Vogel from the team USC. Vogel played a rather low round at the event and carded a 66 to stand 4 strokes short of the top place. The golfer ended his game after carding a 209 with a 7 under.
Apart from James White and T.J. Vogel, Austin Cody ended his game at the 7th place with a 1 under and finished at a 215 for his top 10 finish. Cody managed to collect an amazing eagle and collected a total of 5 birdies in total.
The 215 scorer played the first 5 holes with a 7 under and recorded 9 pars in the end.
The team was led by Wes Roach where the senior carded a low of 69 at the last round as the team reached a score of 290 with a 2 over at the championship.
His front nine had been a collection of birdies as he collected his first one at the 1st hole of the last round. Roach's birdie at the par 5 heightened his spirits and he collected more birdies at hole number five, six and seven.
The back nine was mild in nature for Roach, he played some bogeys where he faced one back-to-back double bogey episode on hole number ten and eleven. The golfer however regained his form after he faltered and played a par game
amounting to six in number. He collected one more birdie at the 17th hole. This being his last hole sent the leader to stand at the 16th place after he collected a 217 with 1 over.
Overall, The Blue Devils managed to collect 17 birdies in total at only the front nine of the tournament on Tuesday. Their first nine holes of the final round were spent with an eight under. At the back nine, the team collected
only three birdies and stood at 14 over from hole number ten to eighteen.
