  1. Hi. Im sure the gardeners out there will come up with some good tips but my Gran always said bury some copper near the roots to keep it blue. She had a blue one where she put the copper and a pink one where she didnt.

  2. Use garden sulfur instead of alluminum sulfate.  You can burn the plants using alluminum sulfate but you won't burn them by using sulfur.

  3. The blue colouring comes from 2 sources - breeding and the ph value of the soil.

I assume you have bought a 'blue' cultivar and are hoping to keep it blue.   It needs an acid soil, so test the ph value of your soil (not imported soil, like on the roots of bought plants or in potting compost) , if it is alcaline or neutral you will eiter need to grow the hydranga in pots containing ericacious compost, or water with sequestrene, to increase acidity.

  4. the colour depends on soil type, blue acid soil, pink alkaline,i feed mine with phostrogen...<^><...

  5. i found this info on a website, tells you exactly what to do!

The color is determined by the amount of aluminum available to the plant. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of aluminum sulfate to a gallon of water. Apply it 2 times, 2 weeks apart, for 4 to 6 months prior to blooming. You can also add coffee grounds, eggshells or ground-up citrus peel to the soil. You're shooting for a pH of 5-6.

if you visit a reputable nursery or garden centre, you can buy commercial products with names like hydrangea blue or something, as well...

  6. They are pretty hearty plants, so the best thing to do is just make sure that once the flowers are dead, make sure the plant is dead headed, and trimmed up,   Do this in the fall.  There is always a fertilizer that can be put on it, but if it is doing well, then I would say it will probably do ok again next year.  Do the same things you do for the pink one, and it should continue to be ok.

  7. It is because of the acidity of the soil. Add fetilizer that has higher acidity to keep the blue color, otherwise it will turn back to pink.

  8. Keep 'em Blue - throw your old SOS pads at the soil. Old rusty nails , nuts and bolts.

  9. If its grown in acid soil it will stay blue, bur if its in alkaline (limy) soil its will grow pink.  You can buy ericaceous compost which is for acid loving plants.  It will be too acid for using directly but if you mix it 50/50 with normal compost it will be enough to keep it blue.  If  your original one is pink the other will revert if you do nothing.
