Blue License Plate Lights Legal In New York?

Question

I just bought blue license plate lights (2 of them) and they show the plate well. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is legal in NY state or not? I don't want to "invite" the police to pull me over. In either case, if you could provide a link to your answer that would be great as well. If you don't have one that is fine as well :)

Blue and red are illegal for both the front and rear except for the original red or amber lights that come with the vehicle.
